Entry B: Open Hands

6″ x 8″, Printmaking- linoleum cut (reduction method)

Statement:Open Hands represents surrender. My constant prayer is for the ability to live life with open hands, eager to receive what has been set before me. Open Hands is a statement of belief in the truth that God has gone behind and before me and that he walks beside me always. Open Hands gives a window into the heart that is postured to the Lord in thanksgiving and total trust. What lies ahead of me is his will, and I open my hands to say “Your will be done”.”

Entry D: Francis

5×7, Graphite

Statement:Recently I have been really inspired by the intricacies of birds. I wanted to attempt one of the most complicated and beautiful birds I could find, and so I landed on a peacock. I really tried to focus on accurately Portraying the light source and shadows. I was influenced by the realistic look of the paintings done by Dominique Salm. However, I love the simplicity of pencils that can result in some amazing contrast and detail that you can’t find with any other medium.

Entry I: Visual Psalm

16×20, Oil paint and canvas

Statement: “Let the heavens praise your wonders, O LORD, your faithfulness in the assembly of the holy ones! For who in the skies can be compared to the LORD?” (Psalm 89: 4-6)

“My oil painting is a depiction of a photograph that I took of the sunset on an October night. Sunsets have always been meaningful to me as they signify the end of another day. The beauty of Creation displays God’s glory, so I tried to show this through the vibrant colors in the sunset and reflection. I’ve always thought that a really beautiful sunset looks like bright shades of pink and orange paint that have been blended and smeared across the sky, and oils were a great medium to achieve this.” (Click to enlarge)

Entry J: Anniversary Gift of Bodie Lighthouse

10″x8″, acrylic paint on canvas board

Statement:I have enjoyed the lighthouse paintings of Edward Hopper, but my style is different. I was hoping for realism and I strove to have accuracy and excellence in every part of this painting. It was painstaking and a joy to complete. I took this photograph while visiting Bodie Lighthouse in Cape Hatteras with my sister and my parents. It was their anniversary and I wanted to paint it as a gift for them”
