“A childhood without books- that would be no childhood. That would be like being shut out from the enchanted place where you can go and find the rarest kind of joy.” This is one of my favorite quotes by Astrid Lindgren and I believe it displays her character well. I chose to use the photo taken by Jacob Forsell as inspiration. I wanted to challenge my drawing skills with all the small details in it. Each year, the third graders at my school read Astrid’s book Pippy Longstocking. Pippy’s kindness reflects Astrid’s kindness. My goal was to capture this exuding kindness and wisdom in my pencil drawing the way the photographer did.
