The artist I took inspiration from for my painting is Johannes Vermeer. Specifically his painting, “The Girl With The Pearl Earring”. I chose this painting because of the subject matter and composition. This painting immediately draws the viewer to a beautiful young girl as the center piece but the mystery lies in: what exactly is she looking at? I often wonder is she happy? Confused? Perhaps startled? I believe that is where the enchantment of this piece lies. The subject matter of my painting I chose is none other than my mother. I wanted to capture all the different kinds of “looks” my siblings and I would get from our mom. I guess you can say it is a form of telepathic communication because we always knew what it was about—and it can be a variety of things. My mother is my role model and who I look up to the most. She is the strongest, smartest, kindest—at times scariest— and most beautiful person in my life. I love you Mom!
