8.5″ x 11″ Charcoal on 20lb paper
This charcoal work is of a crow sitting among a mess of grass, leaves, and tiny flowers. Inspired by the themes of the Baroque period and artists like Caravaggio, I incorporated intense lighting differences between the dark crow and the bright white sky. I was inspired to make a crow because the already dark and near colorless bird would look excellent with the dramatic use of darks and lights from both the charcoal and the Baroque period.
