Summary

There is no app for observation! Despite our modern tendency to gravitate towards an increasingly technology-driven classroom, particularly in science pedagogy, it is an inescapable fact that learners, particularly our youngest learners, are primed to make sense of the world first and foremost through their senses. In this session, we will explore how the powers of observation can be rediscovered in your grammar school science, rekindling a sense of natural history, and in so doing, laying the foundation for a paradigm shift away from scientism and naturalism that can last a lifetime. Through the exploration of multi-generational gardening, sketching, and a series of units called Skills of the Tracker, we will explore how observation can be rediscovered as a keystone of your science program.
