2016 Workshop Talk | 1:05:43 | All Grade Levels, Art & Music
Summary
Take your students on a journey from crayons to Rembrandt. This workshop covers studio art techniques that include all the formal elements of art with intentional and purposeful detail. It also covers special and unique techniques using many mediums. We will also navigate the ins and outs of using the formal elements, through an integrated curriculum-match with history, science, math and geography. Lesson plans for the grammar levels emphasize the elements of line and shape using basic mediums such as drawing and painting while including a few mediums that develop fine motor skills such as stitching and embroidery. Lesson plans for the high school students emphasize the value of the sketchbook and using the formal elements to get very experimental! If time allows we will go into auction and fundraising projects that match each grade level curriculum and that sell! Also included in this section is information on contests and grants that either match curriculum or raise money. We will go through projects step by step and provide supply lists and other resources.
Speaker
Kathy Mier grew up in a small town of about 6000 people in southern Oregon and began to paint about the same time she could hold a paintbrush. Her first inspired work was of the Apollo missions that orbited and then landed on the moon. In first grade, she received an “F” in art when her teacher gave her a mimeograph copy of a pear to color, and she did her best coloring ever. Her teacher informed her that “pears are not green.” Kathy ran home in tears. In her house the pears were all different colors and besides, she was an artist! Later she attended Oregon State University and then received a bachelor of arts degree from Southern Oregon State in psychology and art.
