Oil Paint on Stretched Canvas
When I was young I lived in Dallas and we would go to the Dallas Museum of Art almost weekly. I always loved the impressionist exhibit, and though it’s been awhile since I’ve been, I still do. I love the texture and movement that the paintings have. I tried to capture some of this with my oil painting, and I went about doing that by using a palette knife for almost my entire piece. I didn’t want the colors to blend together and get muddy, and with the use of a palette knife I could achieve that. I started with a thin layer of a base color, and layered on top of that with the knife. I have always liked Claude Monet’s works. His contrasting colors and values, and the way he achieves them, fascinates me. His technique inspired some of my approach to this piece. I tried to capture some of his loose freedom in the way I painted my shoes. I tried to get the light and shadow, the texture, to be very fluid and flowey
