I started this painting with the intention of portraying one of the most compelling images I came across this year. While reading “The Romance of the Rose” I read the scene in which the main character stumbles upon the very same pool that Narcissus gazed into. But when the Lover came to look into the treacherous pool they discovered, instead of their reflection, a simple rose that became the object of all of their passions. While creating this piece I was inspired by the works of Monet, specifically the way he captures water. The flicks of pigment and use of color created the dreamlike appearance that I was looking for. The imagination has many uses and I intend to explore mine to the fullest, as I endeavor to become an even better artist.
