My painting, entitled “Pebbles on the Water”, is a composition of oil on canvas. I based this piece off of a picture my mother took of my brother when he was little; when we lived in Rhode Island, he would spend hours throwing pebbles into the Narragansett Bay. I chose to paint with oil because it captures well all the vibrant colors and varying textures that bring this scene to life. Throughout the painting process, I was greatly inspired by the artistic works of Richard Schmid. I spent a considerable amount of time studying his loose, yet captivating brushwork and his expert control of the medium, and sought to improve my own work with these techniques.
