Ross Douthat does a masterful and concise job in this older New York Times piece as he describes the obvious that everyone and yet no one seems to know about college. You may want to pass this around, or at least give it to your college advisor. As parents and students in our schools play the college game, they seem to feel the problems don’t apply to them. For some, a good technical education can be had at college, even amid the ethos. But much like congressional approval— with a 17% overall approval rating, but high marks for OUR congressman— we think our kids are immune. They can go to college wherever and be a light. We’ve heard this “be a light” for years as Christian students enter public school. Many parents are finally realizing that the combination of a-theistic teaching and bad company does actually corrupt the young. But they’re old enough in college, right?
