11″ x 14″, Acrylics on canvas
While on a hiking trip in the mountains, I took a photo of this
scene: a cascading waterfall viewed through the twisted roots
of an old piece of driftwood. I later decided to bring the picture
to life in painting form, wanting to capture the beauty of nature
on a canvas. Though my style may not be quite impressionism,
I was greatly inspired by Claude Monet’s philosophy of painting
nature as he saw it, and I wanted to do the same for this piece.
As for the meaning of the painting, there is this: I am the driftwood,
fallen, twisted, and battered. I am nothing on my own, yet beautiful
when viewed in the context of something greater.
Bible verse:
Deep calls to deep in the roar of your waterfalls; all your waves
and breakers have swept over me.
Psalm 42:7 NIV
