Summary:
Christian philosopher returning from Hong Kong to the US in 2025 and landing with family in Texas. Looking for a good honest educational job. Much experience teaching at universities; Christian high schools are on my radar as well as Christian universities, (some) secular universities, and community colleges.
Huge fan of great texts and the Trivium! (I teach Latin, Logic, and just a bit of Rhetoric to my own kids.) Christian. (Specifically Baptist, inerrantist, non-Dispensationalist premillenialist but not worried about which eschatology is correct, and non-Calvinist with some respect for Infralapsarian Calvinism.) Solid Christian worldview. (Lots of Augustine and David Naugle–studied under Naugle myself.) Some respectable publications in theology and philosophy.
Willing to consider relocating (especially if it’s somewhere between Texas, Florida, and Tennessee).
My dear wife and I only have 8 kids! I don’t need to be rich, but I need a salary that can feed everyone and take care of the dental problems some of them have.
Can teach Logic, Great Texts, Philosophy, Theology, Literature (with a little extra work), and probably Rhetoric (with some more extra work). Interested in teaching, and maybe even in taking on a leadership role. (More likely the Christian high school equivalent of a university Chair, Dean, or Provost than the equivalent of a President; but willing to consider!)

Additional Qualifications:
Additional Experience with CCE:
Hobbies, Interests, and Family: Just 1 wife and 8 kids, thank the Lord.
Big fan of Tolkien. Prefer original Star Trek to all others.
Top 5 Books: The Bible, naturally.
Hamlet and Macbeth
Rather a lot of Augustine’s Expositions on the Psalms.
Rereadings in good old philosophy I teach a lot, including the Confucian Analects, Aristotle’s Nichomachean Ethics, Kant’s Grounding for the Metaphysics of Morals, and Mill’s Utilitarianism.
Top 3 Books: Rereads of Hamlet, Macbeth, and The Tempest.
One reason is that I enjoy them. Another is that I like to read those Shakespeare stories with ghosts, witches, and murders in October. (Yes, to my shame I read fiction for pleasure very, very slowly these days. It’s kind of embarrassing. Since then I’ve been slowly doing some Douglas Adams rereads.)
Most Influential Books: The Bible
The Confucian Analects
Plato’s Apology
Augustine’s Confessions
Descartes’ Discourse on Method
Locke’s Second Treatise of Government
Kant’s Grounding for the Metaphysics of Morals
Shakespeare’s Hamlet and Macbeth
Marx’ Communists Manifesto and short portions from Smith’s Wealth of Nations.
Preferred Denomination Type: Baptist
Current Church: Gateway Bible Baptist Church in Hong Kong
Current Church Denomination: Baptist
Current Church Membership: Yes
Current Church Attendance: Weekly
Support of Traditional Marriage: Yes
Theology: More or less in order of importance:
Christian/Nicene.
Inerrantist.
Chalcedonian.
Western, not Eastern.
Reformation, not Catholicism.
Baptist.
Belief in the inerrancy of Scripture?: Yes
Notes on Scripture: Completely true and important. I agree with the Chicago Statement on Biblical Inerrancy. (Studied under William Bell of DBU, one of the signers!)
(There’s some nuance, of course. For example, I always recommend the straightforward original-meaning interpretation although I’m not opposed in principle to other readings. My article “How Does the Bible Refer to Christ?” in Heythrop Journal is open-access.)
Additional classical training: Studied NT Greek and some logic in undergrad. Hardly had any idea I was learning the Trivium, but it did me a world of good. Studied some Latin in grad school. Lately have done some work keeping up some rudimentary Latin skills, and better work studying New Testament readings in the original.
But mostly I’m just a Great Texts guy with a focus in philosophy and the Bible.
Why I want to teach at a classical school: They’re probably doing the most third-most important work on the planet–right after Christian dads and moms and good pastors.
Final thoughts: I don’t believe I mentioned apologetics. I can do that too! Some relevant experience researching and teaching. And I run sister philosophy channels on YouTube and Rumble: TeacherOfPhilosophy. I’m relatively small potatoes, but I do have about 7,000 subscribers on YouTube. Maybe it’s a good intro to my teaching.
