Hobbies, Interests, and Family: I love all of the visual, creative, and performance arts. I love traveling and exploring other cultures and learning about food, customs, art, religion, and societal and family structures. I had a serious band with my husband where we gigged around Hollywood and wrote and performed our originals and covers as well. I love being outdoors and being active in any capacity. My two daughters are the center of my heart and are now almost 14 and 15. I am a widow who is thankful for both what I’ve had and God’s grace in my journey to where I am now.
Top 5 Books: I have been compelled in recent years to form a more full view of human history and the development of religion, so I have been researching these things at length. “After Jesus, Before Christianity – by Vearncombe, Scott, and Taussig” was a door opener into a new line of thinking. Following that I read the Talmud translated into English which rocked my understanding of Judeo/Christian History and the interaction between the two. I then read the Hamurabi Code, which was such a companion to the era of Abraham and the laws of Moses. I am currently reading the Teachings of Zoroaster which is amazing historically, and also I was immensely affected and amazed by Steven Hawking’s “A Brief History of Time” which I just finished a couple of months ago. I wish I could send a photo of all these books, as my copies are bristling around the edges with sticky notes and markers poking out. An honorable mention as well was “Have a Little Faith” by Mitch Albom, which offered many wonderful thoughts and revelations.
Top 3 Books: I’m always reading a direct translation of the Bible from the original Aramaic by Lamsa. I feel this is a more clear path to understanding the compilation of books which make up the Western Bible. I’m working my way through the teachings of Zoroaster. He lived near the time of Abraham, was an ancestor of the Magi, and influenced Moses. I am currently reading “I Am Malala” by Malala Yousefzi. I think her story is important.
Most Influential Books: I feel like I should simply say, refer to the segments on “5 Books” and “3 Books” as they mention the most influential books. But also I’d like to add to the list, I suppose, “My Life” – Golda Meir, “Prairie Fires” – Laura Ingles Wilder, “Educated” – Tara Westover, “The Alchemist” – Paul Coehlo, “Poisonwood Bible” – Barbara Kingsolver, “Atlas Shrugged” and “We the Living” – Ayn Rand, the space trilogy of CS Lewis, Narnia, and “Mere Christianity”, “The River” – Rumer Godden, “This Fiery Night” – Joan Vatsek, “Pilgrim’s Progress”, and of course, I’ll always love “Trumpet of the Swan” by E.B. White…and millions more, but anyway.
Preferred Denomination Type: Other
Current Church: Sycamore Presbyterian
Current Church Denomination: Currently, Presbyterian
Current Church Membership: No
Current Church Attendance: Weekly
Support of Traditional Marriage: Yes
Theology: Obviously, in the ancient world even men of our faith had multiple wives. I do think that the best method of family management and societal peace is the lifelong committed pairing in marriage of one likeminded man and one likeminded woman. I feel like the healthiest environment for the raising of children is in a home with one Father and Mother, who are married, love each other, and treat each other well.
Belief in the inerrancy of Scripture?: Yes
Notes on Scripture: I do feel that the term “scripture” has been misused. I feel that the collection of works which make up the Bible were written by a variety of sources. However, I don’t believe that God makes mistakes or says errant things.
Additional classical training: I have taught at a classical school.
Why I want to teach at a classical school: I think it’s the best, most logical, method of education.
Final thoughts: I do think we should respect other faiths and cultures, and would like to feel that from the school I teach in. I also very much hope for organization in administration of a school and fair hiring and compensation practices.
