2014 Leaders Day Talk | 0:45:04 | Culture & Faith
Summary
Perhaps the most ominous court decision since Roe v. Wade was the Elane Photography case from last year, in which the new Mexico Supreme Court ruled that a devoted Christian woman must act contrary to her faith and violate her conscience as “the price of citizenship” in this Country. In reaching this horrible decision, the court concluded that the nondiscrimination law under which Elane Photography was prosecuted trumped the first Amendment’s protections. Put another way, Elane Photography says that when freedom of speech and religious liberty clash with ñgay rightsî and sexual liberty, the first Amendment loses is interactive small group will explore this troubling development by examining the growing threat posed to Christians and religious organizations by nondiscrimination ordinances that criminalize acting according to oneÍs religious convictions. It will also provide a theological framework for thinking about, and discussing with others, when discrimination honors God, and when it violates His will. Finally, it will provide steps you can take to best protect your churches, your schools, and yourselves from these ordinances.
