Summary

In April, 2017, Highland Rim Academy celebrated its tenth anniversary since its founding in 2007. As anniversaries do, this season brought many opportunities for reflection. And yet, our success as a school is owed primarily to the input received from other schools—both fledgling and well-established. The entire cCe model assumes the highest value from our history lessons and as an association, the history of one school has valuable lessons for another. This workshop hopes to accomplish in one hour what countless school visits, emails, and phone calls to sister schools has accomplished for our faculty and administration. Sample lessons to be presented include: aiming for the stars while finding contentment in the dirt, the value of developing and utilizing founding documents, establishing the first classical Christian education school in any community, distinguishing between founding and operating a school, and how to give students something we don’t have.

Speaker

Christie Wright serves as the assistant head of school at Highland Rim Academy in Cookeville, TN. She was instrumental in the founding of the school in 2007 and has spent most of her instructional time in the humanities and rhetoric classes. She earned an undergrad in English literature at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and an MA in curriculum and instruction from Tennessee Technological University. She at one time held state licensure in the state of Tennessee but has since fully recovered. She enjoys her country home with her husband of 16 years and four young children, two of whom will be entering grades two and four at HRA this fall.
