Speaker
A professional educator for more than 30 years, Maryellen St. Cyr has spent thousands of hours teaching and observing both students and teachers. She has become one of the foremost educators in the educational philosophy of British educator, Charlotte Mason. As a classroom teacher and school principal, Maryellen noted inconsistencies in her own and other teachers’ relationships with students and texts. These observations prompted a quest to understand why and how we best educate. She visited numerous schools and studied their best teachers and practices, realizing that even the best lacked a unifying philosophy that undergirded their practice. During more than a decade of research, Maryellen studied Mason’s work, analyzed educational theory, and earned an MA in curriculum studies. She applied initial findings distilled from her research among students and teachers, and then founded the first Ambleside School and Ambleside Schools International in Fredericksburg, Texas.
