Summary


This practical workshop is geared to the small school music specialists who wish to implement a band, orchestra, or choral program in their school. We will begin with curriculum suggestions, discuss rehearsal techniques, focus, resources, and end with tried and true music literature for concert performances at all levels. The last few minutes will be devoted to Q & A.

Speaker


Karen Graham is the 4th_12th grade instrumental director at Schaeffer Academy in Rochester Minnesota. Karen holds a BS degree in music education and has thoroughly enjoyed teaching band and orchestra at Schaeffer for eight years. She is a member and actively involved in the Minnesota Band Directors Association (MBDA) and Minnesota Music EducatorÍs Association (MMEA). She started the orchestra program at Schaeffer Academy with eight students and it has grown to 45 students this past year. Likewise, the band program has almost doubled in size from 60 to 110 students. Karen and her husband, Tim, have five children, ages 11 to 20, who attend or graduated from Schaeffer Academy.
