My acrylic painting titled, “Brother in Arms” is a portrait of my older brother, who attended West Point and now flies helicopters in the military. I wanted to experiment with color and searched for a photo that was meaningful to me. I landed on a photo of my brother smirking proudly in his uniform after he successfully flew a helicopter. I focused heavily on the fine details and blending of color and chose a color scheme which reminded me of thermal imaging. The bright colors highlight his vibrant proud expression, and serve as a reminder that underneath the detailed uniform, within the blur of military green, are warm living people: Fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, sisters, and brothers.
