“First, I would like to give full image credit to Riccardo Brig Casarico*, who captured this wonderful scene. I chose this particular photograph for my composition because it was taken in Italy, specifically in Borghi. Italy not only has beautiful architecture, but a beautiful culture as well, and I love the way this photograph captures that culture. The contrast between the relatively monochromatic architecture and the colorful plants draws attention to the lively, rich culture of Italy. To draw out this contrast, I used saturated colors for the plants. My use of saturated colors was inspired by the works of Claude Monet, who often used saturated colors when depicting nature. Some of his works also portray nature and architecture together, which inspired me to find a picture which emulates this beauty. I particularly love the way this image captures the harmony between what God has made: the plants, and what God has made through man: the buildings.

I am traveling to Italy in April, and who knows, I may see this same alley way!

*[The student] has written permission from the photographer to create a drawing from this photograph.”
