As an artist, I am always captivated by the subtle beauty of everyday life. In this drawing, “An Eager Feaster,” I wanted to capture the moment of anticipation and excitement that often accompanies mealtime, especially for those who truly appreciate good food. The subject of the drawing is my mother, eagerly waiting to dig into her dinner with a knife in hand. I chose to use pencil to create this piece because I believe it captures the texture and depth of the subject with unique simplicity.
I have long admired the work of M.C. Escher, particularly for his use of interesting and playful perspectives. I have also recently been inspired by the paintings of Jackie Liu because of her ability to use color to convey emotion and the energy of her brushstrokes to create lifelike texture in her work.
