My acrylic painting entitled “A Tribute to a Good Swing set” is my attempt at honoring my childhood playhouse in the way it deserves. My family’s swing set was a gift from my grandmother when I was two years old and has been a staple of my backyard my entire life. This year, it came down after Hurricane Ian, and I began to reflect on the memories it left in its wake. I focused on capturing the joy in my face, and the way the wind the blew my shirt, skirt and hair in all directions. The artist who inspired this piece was Van Gogh. His use of unexpected bold colors and movement in his paintings allowed me to paint freely and confidently, seeing the painting as a whole piece instead of individual parts.
