As a board member at Regents, I was finding that every year when re-enrollments came due our parents were comparing our price tag with a “free” public education — that really, of course, comes with many costs but not of the same type. That was the motivation to write the article, which … grew too long for one article so we split it up into bite-sized pieces for our parents.
