B

Here with Us

Christmas: 9″x12″, watercolor paper and watercolors

‘Here with us’ is a painting inspired by the true meaning of Christmas. I was more specifically inspired by Raphael’s use of light in ‘The Transfiguration.’ But, the artist that ultimately inspired this piece is God, because without the beauty and humility of the incarnation, we wouldn’t have a Savior for our sins and we would have nothing worth depicting through art. God is the only source of truth, beauty and goodness.

C

Summer Solstice

Get Well/Encouragement: 7″x10″, mixed media paper and watercolors

“Summer solstice” is a piece inspired by a trip I took to South Dakota to see the Black hills. I wanted to capture the beauty of God’s creation and the breathtaking terrain of the Black Hills. I remember standing at a viewing point along the trip and marveling at the layers of rock, in different shapes, colors and sizes. These rocks were as far as the eye could see and it was incredible.

D

Beyond the Light

Scripture: 7″x10″, mixed media paper and watercolor/gouache

“Beyond the light” was painted during a rough season of my life. In fact, I remember crying when I first started painting it. I think this painting is encouraging to me now, because I am able to look back and see where I’ve come from. I’m no longer in a forest, I’m surrounded by the good gift of God’s undeserved grace.

Christmas Truck

Christmas: 5″x7″, photography

My photography style has been influenced by photographer Dan Thompson. At [my school] my art teacher has gone into depth of good composition elements. These points are: placement of Point of Interest, Directional Movement (lead in and frame up), Ambient Space and Repetition within each image. This Christmas Truck photo image follows those composition rules.

K

On the Dragon in Townsend, Tennessee

Open: 5″x7″, astro-photography genre

My influence in this Astro – Photograph style is Dan Thompson. Over the last two years I have learned the Lightroom processing of this image as well as stacking images. This photo was taken in a deep – astrophotography approach such that the foreground has an accurate placement of stars and is shot at blue hour and light painted. It is then composed with and accurate properly placement of the milky way – shot the following day, which itself was a stack of 50 images in a darker sky located – On The Dragon in Townsend, TN.

L

May the Wind

Open: 2100×1500, digital art

“My piece was inspired by the soft, and flowy nature of Vincent van Gogh’s Starry Night. I used oil pastels, while he used oil paints, so a similar feeling was able to be translated. The wind in relation to the sun and the moon made me think about a scenario where there would be wind in space. It allowed me to use a similar technique to van Gogh’s blending style to make it look as if the wind was mixing the colors of the stars, sky, sun, and moon.”

M

Smidy Hunting

Open: 11″ x 16″, Pencil on paper

For my art project, I was inspired by what used to be. Growing up, going on fun adventures, I wanted to draw from the perspective of a child’s imagination. The title Smidy Hunting reflects back on a mysterious figure named Smidy, with the bridge representing the endless adventure ahead of us. Adonna Khare has inspired me throughout my artistic journey. She draws beautiful nature and action pencil drawings and has inspired me to try and make similar drawings.

N

Simplicity and Beauty

Thank you: 12″ x 24″, acrylic on canvas

I’ve always enjoyed painting, and the simplicity and beauty of flowers is inspiring. I focused on the color and detail of the tulip, and attempted to compose it in a way that is pleasing to look at. In doing so, I found my own art style that I love. This painting was inspired by the greatest artist of all: our God who created the whole world.
